Baer Scores Season-High 22 but Chargers Fall to Bobcats

Freshman forward Cody Baer (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) had a season-high in scoring for the fourth consecutive game, but the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team dropped an 81-71 decision at Bryant & Stratton on Friday.

Baer scored 22 points while connecting on 10 of his 11 shots from the field. Over his past four games, the 6-foot-10 freshman has averaged 18.0 points while shooting 73.8 percent (31 of 42).

The Chargers (13-3), first among others receiving votes in the NJCAA Division II rankings, took a 34-30 lead into halftime against the Bobcats (9-8) but were outscored 51-37 in the final 20 minutes.

Freshman Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) had 15 points and a team-best seven rebounds off the bench for Sandburg, and sophomore Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) had 11 points and five assists while going 3 of 5 from 3-point range.

Luke Taylor led four Bobcats in double figures with 17 points.
